06/10/21: Envy comes up roses; ’21 Nerd Street goes live; LEC’s talent; Enthusiast goes public

Envy Gaming scored with a double, locking in big new partnerships with both ecommerce retailer ProFlowers and Fortune 500 company USAA. Each deal will see the brands activate across Envy’s network of professional esports teams and content creators, as well as be integrated into Envy content, promotions or future live events.

The alliance kicks off with ProFlowers teaming up with Envy creator duo and Twitch stars Alexandra Botez and Andrea Botez to offer a special 20% off on a curated selection of favorite ProFlowers arrangements. Meanwhile, USAA becomes the official insurance category partner. Envy has existing partnerships with national brands Jack in the Box, Predator, CORSAIR, Jack Link’s, SCUF Gaming and ThriveFantasy.

“ProFlowers is always exploring pioneering partnership alignments that will further excite our existing and future customers,” says Taryn Rayment, ProFlowers’ Chief Marketing Officer. “Collaborating with Envy Gaming will provide our consumers with an engaging, product integrated experience through esports.” COMPETITION Nerd Street revealed plans to return to live events this July following reduced COVID limitations, with support from game publishers, the first in-person events will kick off in July at the company’s Localhost venues across the country, while the first large-scale major tournament will be held this coming January 2022 at the Nerd Street Winter Championships at Localhost Los Angeles. Historically, Championships have included titles in VALORANT, Rocket League, Rainbow 6 Siege, League of Legends, and Apex Legends. “The return of live esports tournaments is critical for competitive integrity and growth of the industry,” said John Fazio, CEO of Nerd Street. “I think we’re all ready to get back together and see each other in person, so we’ll do what we do best and lead the charge on providing safe live gaming environments in our Localhost facilities while providing the highest quality event experience to our customers.”

The LEC locked in its talent for League of Legends European Championship action starting June 11 as the 2021 Summer Season kicks in. The core team will include: Trevor “Quickshot” Henry; Eefje “sjokz” Depoortere; Daniel Drakos; Aaron “Medic” Chamberlain; Andrew “Vedius” Day; Laure “Bulii” Valée; and Marc “Caedrel” Lamont. They will be joined every week by a slate of guest casters, with an eye to mix up talent to gain fresh perspectives.

Blast Premier continues to spread its wings, announcing plans to expand into new territories for its Fall Qualifying Series. Competition will be open to over 60 countries for a shot to compete in the Fall Showdown from Oct. 12-17, with qualifiers opening in July across five continents. Regions will include: Nordics, South America, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, Iberia, North America and the Middle East.

The SMITE Pro League laid out its roadmap for the new season, with season eight kicking off on April 23 and running through SWC Placements in December. The SPL will once again be played live on LAN at the Hi-Rez Productions studio in Alpharetta, GA, with the broadcast schedule seeing play at 1p on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Halfway through each SPL phase, they will add an additional broadcast day on Thursdays.

Community Effort Orlando, aka CEO, confirmed plans for a return in December. CEO founder Alex Jebailey announced that entrants are being capped at 2,500 across the 10 games in the official lineup. The headline games available to play at CEO 2021 includes the following: Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy: Versus, Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Skullgirls 2nd Encore, BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

Gridiron Gaming, backed by the Pro Football Retired Players Association, is launching Gridiron Bowl, a 3-on-3 Madden tournament produced by Thunder Studios, kicking off this weekend with a two-day Community Qualifier and concluding on June 26 with the Main Event. The tournament includes six retired NFL players that include Jamaal Charles and Jonathan Stewart competing in the Main Event Show Matches. “Bringing retired NFL players and gamers together for this event helps bridge the gap between traditional and this fairly new age of competitive sports,” said Jack Youngblood, a Pro Football Hall of Famer and PFRPA Board Member.”

Speaking of the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens announced the creation of the Ravens Gaming League, with plans to offer public tournaments and activities and backed by a multi-year deal with Esports Entertainment Group. The Ravens Gaming League will launch with a Fortnite event running June 25-27.

NASCAR announced a partnership with Stay Plugged IN, an organizer of collegiate recruiting events in the US, to bring a three-part scholarship series to students throughout the country who are interested in pursuing esports and gaming scholastically. Over the summer, Stay Plugged IN will organize and produce two amateur tournaments where participants have the opportunity to compete in front of collegiate recruiters from around the country. Throughout gameplay, contestants will utilize NASCAR-themed vehicles available to the public for purchase in game. There will also be a game creation competition where students use coding to design games

The Electronic Gaming Federation wrapped its 2020-21 intercollegiate season and championships with record engagement across a growing number of games. The org saw over 70 colleges and universities, including the BIG EAST and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference participate in sanctioned season-long co-ed events for the first time, with St. John’s University (FIFA), UT Arlington (Rocket League and Overwatch) and Mississippi State University (Super Smash Brothers) winning national titles.

ESL Gaming announced a strategic partnership with 433 that will focus on increasing the global visibility and experience of the bevestor Virtual Bundesliga. The partnership begins today and will feature premium short form video-on-demand formats and further innovative social content stories on the 433 esports channel. In addition, the entire next season of the bevestor Virtual Bundesliga will be accompanied by 433 with English-language highlight content. QNTMPAY will be the exclusive naming rights partner of Dignitas’ competitive League of Legends teams, renaming the organization’s League Championship Series (LCS) team as ‘Dignitas QNTMPAY’ and the organization’s LCS Academy team as ‘DIG QNTM Academy’. The move marks the first naming rights partner in the LCS since the league franchised in 2018. Both team jerseys will feature prominent front-facing QNTMPAY branding, and each team’s esports athletes will be featured in a variety of content and experiential activations.

Kia and Rogue renewed ties for their creative content relationship where the duo will continue their digital-first campaign supporting the global car manufacturer’s new “Movement that inspires” brand narrative. “We are thrilled to showcase our unique esports brand in a joint campaign with Kia,” said Anna Baumann, EVP of Esports at ReKTGlobal. “We both believe in innovation and inspiration as the driving force to be the best. Rogue owner ReKTGlobal landed a two-year partnership with gaming chair innovation brand AutoFull that includes both ReKTGlobal esports properties and is designed to support AutoFull’s growth across Europe and the US. The partnership will include Rogue and London Royal Ravens players and coaches’ assistance in the development of a new gaming chair scheduled for release in 2022, as well as limited-edition co-branded chairs.

Xfinity revealed Team Xfinity, a lineup of brand ambassadors consisting of streamers, content creators, and gamers ”who rely on Xfinity Internet to power all their gaming and streaming needs, and to connect with their audiences across the world.” Names on board include Bugha, BasicallyIDoWrk, JoshOG, Elspeth, TheMavShow, Ekuegan, and IAmBrandon with members creating special content and taking part in sponsored streams as well as other marketing and promotional campaigns.

Super League Gaming and agency Rumble Gaming entered into an extended partnership that will see some of the agency’s biggest creators collaborate with top-tier brands from across the globe through Super League’s in-stream Sponsored Live Break viewing experience. The initiative offers creators who use the Mobcrush live streaming software a way to entertain their audience even when they have to step away from their device while broadcasting live with the ability to share recaps of the top moments from the segment of their broadcast just completed. A highlights reel full of instant replays is built and delivered in real-time.

G2 Esports unlocked a new deal with Betway to serve as its bookmaking partner in a global partnership. The pair will work closely together to create “entertaining moments and content that defy the odds and keep you laughing.” To celebrate the beginning of our story with Betway, we will be organizing multiple activities and giveaways: G2 Jerseys, CS:GO Skins, and more.

T1 Entertainment & Sports signed Matrix Keyboards as the official keyboard of the global esports organization. The partnership will span all of T1’s rosters competing in League of Legends, VALORANT, Dota 2, Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends and more. In addition, the brand has been named the official keyboard of League of Legends superstar Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.

Esports Stadium Arlington unlocked new partnerships with ESPAT AI, Quadraclicks and JLab Audio. Under the terms of the new one-year deal, ESPAT AI will work with ESA to capture images and video from esports events that run at the venue and distribute it through its media licensing platform.

Meanwhile, tournament operator Unified locked in a deal with ESPAT AI to help catalogue and distribute both photo and video content from past and future tournaments. “It’s a win for esports and for our attendees, to be able to showcase these great players and organizations with their emergence in the scene or their assertion of skills across competitions,” said Unified Event Director, Rebecca Rong. “Through on-site tournaments, we’re giving attendees of all skill levels the chance to face-off on the big stage and to play like the pros. Through ESPAT, we are able to distribute high quality content through new channels and share these victories on a whole new level.”

NUTTER BUTTER is teaming with FaZe Clan on Sunday, hosting “Get Your Nutty Game On: World Record Edition,” a live stream on Twitch in collaboration with popular esports organization, FaZe Clan. The eight-hour livestream will take place this weekend on National Peanut Butter Cookie Day, June 12 with FaZe Mew and Rich Campbell co-hosting while FaZe Clan members Mongraal, Nate Hill, Fresh, and Sway will play throughout the event. During the first two hours of the stream, a squad of four Fortnite pros (including Mongraal, Nate Hill, and Sway) will come together to attempt to “set new and nutty records within the game, such as fastest win, longest shark ride, most walls built in 60 seconds and more.” During the final six hours of the stream, players will compete head-to-head in a variety of family-friendly games, trying to out-perform each other in Mario Kart, Golf It and Super Smash Bros.
