Krafton, the South Korean company behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is poised to make history, announcing that its IPO would raise up to $5 billion and potentially setting a record for the country. According to Reuters, Tencent-backed Krafton said in a regulatory filing it expected to offer 10 million shares, or 7 million new shares and 3 million existing shares. PUBG has sold 25 million copies on PC and game consoles. Krafton is also planning to release two new games this year based on the PUBG intellectual property (IP), including mobile game “PUBG: New State” and “Battlegrounds Mobile India” targeting the Indian market. COMPETITION Riot Games revealed the quintet of Chinese cities who will host the 2021 League of Legends World Championship. Rolling out the red carpets will be Shanghai, Qingdao, Wuhan, and Chengdu, which will all serve as stops in the multi-city tour before Worlds kick in at Universiade Sports Centre in Shenzhen on Nov. 6. “We’ve locked in the five Chinese cities after an extremely competitive bidding process, and we’re now ready to deliver on our promise to players with a multi-city tour for the biggest esports event on the planet,” said John Needham, Global Head of Esports at Riot Games.|
A $3 million prize pool awaits competitors in the Fortnite Champion Series All-Star Showdown, which launches Friday and runs through June 26. The FNCS All-Star Showdown will be held in conjunction with esports network BLAST. “We’re thrilled to embark on this journey with the talented people behind Fortnite Competitive and the FNCS,” BLAST vice president of product Nicolas Estrup said in a statement. “Being able to dedicate challenges to showcase all the intricacies of what it means to be a top Fortnite player really excites us and we hope the community will feel the same.”
Leagues continue opening their doors to in-person play. Call of Duty League gathers for the first time since the pandemic this weekend with the Stage 4 Major competition starting today at Esports Stadium Arlington in Texas under Local Area Network conditions. All 12 teams will be on site playing through the same offline network, although there will be no fans in attendance.
Meanwhile, the BLAST Premier Fall Final 2021 will be one of the first CS:GO tournaments to play host to a live audience. For the first time since February 2020, BLAST Premier action will be back on stage, beginning with the Fall Final for the 2021 season at the Copenhagen Royal Arena in Denmark. Teams play for a $425,000 prize pool and a guaranteed spot to the World Final 2021. “BLAST has been eagerly awaiting this day for some time now, we’ve hugely missed arena events and being able to take our shows to CS:GO fans all around the world – nothing can replace the feeling of players entertaining and interacting with a live audience,” said Andrew Haworth, Commissioner for BLAST Premier.
Overwatch League is cooking up its own take on in-person events, announcing that the Battle for Texas will see events from both the Houston and Dallas franchises. Running July 8 and 9, the Outlaws will serve up community and collegiate exhibition matches, meet and greets, etc. Fuel, meanwhile, will host a live event at Esports Arena Arlington (vs. Houston) with an audience at 50& capacity.
E3 this week saw Capcom official revealed the return of its Street Fighter 5 Capcom Pro Tour tournament series this yearwith the 2021 edition set to take place across 32 events in 19 territories. Also returning will be quiz show No Neutrality, exhibition series Set, as well as the Street Fighter League.
The RLCS X Championships is underway with 16 teams competing across four regional online tournaments that span Europe, North America, Oceania and South America and dangling a $1 million prize pool along to go along with a new format for RLCS play with will include a combination of best-of-5 and best-of-7 sets. The top two teams from the Oceania and South America regions will then square off a single best-of-7 set, while the top six teams from Europe and North America facing off in a Page Playoff format.
Twitch Rivals landed its captains for the upcoming World Series of Warzone event,designating FaZe Swagg, DanDangler, Nadeshot, TimTheTatman and Aydan as the announced captains who will draft their teams for the Call of Duty: Warzone tournament, which features a prize pool of $300,000 per event.

Team Liquid and Verizon entered into a multi-year partnership. Through the deal—which includes category exclusivity across telecommunications, 5G wireless and network services, wired and wireless internet, and wired and wireless telephone service—Verizon will become Liquid’s Official 5G Partner and be featured across Team Liquid’s pro athlete jerseys. The partners will also work together on new technology aimed at advancing Liquid’s business efforts and fan offerings.
