Big swerves from Gen.G, which is partnering with motor oil brand Mobil 1
to launch a “joint, first-of-its-kind Rocket League program” titled Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing. Elevating its existing relationship with Rocket League, Mobil 1 is expanding its partnership with Gen.G to create two Rocket League teams – one men’s and one women’s. In addition to the competitive teams, two Rocket League content creators will join the program to elevate the experience for fans on and off the field. The men’s competitive team will compete under “Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing” in the 2022-2023 North American Rocket League Championship Series while the women’s competitive team, “Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing Black,” will compete in Season 5 of the Women’s Carball Championship (
“We have a longstanding relationship with Rocket League, which dates back to season 1 of the RLCS,” said Ryan Allen, Brand & Partnerships Manager of North America at ExxonMobil. “As we thought through our future in the competition, we leaned into our heritage in motorsport to become involved in a bigger way, ultimately leading us to collaborating with Gen.G to start two teams – Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing and Gen.G Mobil 1 Racing Black. We have a long history of success in motorsports, and we hope that our teams in Rocket League will be able to add to that legacy.”
EA laid out the roadmap for the EA SPORTS FIFA 23 competitive ecosystem and unveiled updates to its EA SPORTS FIFA 23 Global Series, including a new flagship 2-vs.-2 tournament slate. Highlights include the introduction of the EA SPORTS Cup, a new 2-vs-2 tournament series. Each week, 20 of the world’s top EA SPORTS FIFA duos will face-off on the road to the FIFAe Club World Cup. Participating teams and clubs include Manchester City Esports, Paris Saint-Germain Esports, Fnatic, Complexity, and more. Traditional 1-vs-1 gameplay returns this FGS season, beginning this week with FUT Division Rivals on Sept. 27. Additionally, EA’s 30 league partners – Premier League, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Ligue 1, MLS, CONMEBOL Libertadores, UEFA Champions League, and more – will offer official esports programs,
Plans for Season 2 of the Snapdragon Pro Series are underway as ESL FACEIT Group and Qualcomm Technologies, with competitions in Asphalt 9: Legends, Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, League of Legends: Wild Rift, Clash Royale, Free Fire, Legends of Runeterra, and PUBG Mobile. In addition, the Snapdragon Pro Series will once again partner with the PUBG Mobile Club Open, to bring PUBG Mobile competition to North America, Europe, The Middle East and North Africa.

Twitter is an essential communication tool for gamers to keep their fingers on the pulse of gaming media. Whether it’s a Game Publisher, Tournament Organizer, Esports Org, Gaming Creator or Fan, everyone is using Twitter.
While there is a fairly obvious connection between Twitter and streaming platforms like Twitch & YouTube as a means to grow hype around future streams, the practice has never been critically examined from a data driven perspective.
What Stream Hatchet has noticed is that performing well on live streaming platforms like Twitch and YouTube doesn’t necessarily translate to having high Twitter engagement, and vice versa.
In the last 30 days, gaming creator shxtou led the top gaming creators in Twitter performance with 5.5 million engagements. An “engagement” is defined as a like, comment, or retweet on Twitter. However, in the last 30 days he’s garnered 887K hours watched on Twitch, which is less than others in the top charts, who have live streaming viewership in the millions.

The Battle of the Brands on Twitch saw DoorDash present a two-day livestream MultiVersus gaming tournament, that pitted 10 national and regional restaurants against one another, each represented in game by a streamer of their choice. Chris Puckett hosted, with brands that included: BJ’s Restaurants and Brewhouse; Blaze Pizza; Chili’s; Del Taco; Dunkin’; FaZe Subs; It’s Just Wings; KFC; Taco Bell; and Wendy’s.
The HBCU Esports League locked in a partnership with soft drink brand Mountain Dew to launch the MTN DEW Real Change Challenge.Students will compete for an overall prize pool of $500,000 and top performers will also get the chance to sign a gaming contract with Mountain Dew for up to one year. Mountain Dew and the HBCU Esports League will broadcast all tournament matches on Cxmmunity’s Twitch channel.
American Video Game League is teaming with Intel to launch its third series of Intel Inspires – the largest scholastic esports summit and competition event for high school and college student gamers. The Intel Inspires educational esports summit will run in April 2023.
Walmart entered the metaverse with two experiences on Roblox. The retail giant’s first foray into the virtual world features a blimp that drops toys, a music festival with artists, a different games, and a store of virtual merchandise, or “verch,” which matches what customers may find in Walmart’s stores and on its website. The two experiences are called Walmart Land and Walmart’s Universe of Play.
Toyota Motor Asia Pacific extended its partnership with dentsu Singapore and ONE Esports for the third year running to present the ‘TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) GT Cup ASIA 2022’. The third edition of the competition is scheduled to take place on Oct. 9 October and span across seven markets in Asia, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and South Korea, and will feature enhanced race formats before the Global Finals of the TGR GT Cup in November 2022.

Esports Now is poised to launch tomorrow, designed to deliver groundbreaking original content showcasing the emergence of collegiate esports. The weekly program will feature the top collegiate esports conferences and teams, explore in-depth player profiles, highlight matches of the week and showcase the biggest rivalries in collegiate esports today. College Esports Now will reach more than 100 million viewers across ESTV and be hosted by esports personalities Katie Scott and Pauly “Hype” Santoro. The program will be produced as a joint effort between Collegiate Sports Management Group, ESPORTSU, ESTV, the North American Collegiate League and National Esports Collegiate Conference
With an esports twist, World Chase Tag USA revealed plans for the next U.S. Championship, featuring the best of the best in freerunning and parkour disciplines. WCT6 U.S. Championship starts on Oct. 7 at the Esports Stadium Arlington, where 16 U.S.-based teams will compete for the title of U.S. Champion of World Chase Tag. The championship will be integrated with an esports event, “The Battle for Texas, Dallas Fuel vs. Houston Outlaws.” There will also be a women’s event with four teams battling it out in the inaugural Women’s WCT U.S. National Championship. Erin Ashley Simon joins Dan Dawson, who will call play-by-plays in the booth. ESPN will air the U.S. Championships in November and December with seven, one-hour episodes throughout the month.

Top content creator Ludwig Ahgren is launching a creative agency titled Offbrand
with longtime collaborator and manager Nick Allen, content creator Nathan Stanz and former Twitch marketing specialist Brandon Ewing. The entity will act as an agency and studio that will “help creators with their own events and series from basically all angles: ideas, production and funding.” “I’ve always accepted the fact that there will be a point where my career ends,” Ahgren told The Washington Post. “When I’m 45 years old, certainly I will be [too] out of touch to have that on Twitch or YouTube. … Rather than fear that and try to maintain success for as long as possible, I love the idea of helping other creators make things that I think are cool.”
